Helping Children Breathe Easier Through Exceptional Respiratory Care
At Cedarcrest, every breath tells a story, a story of strength, teamwork, and the incredible spirit of the children we care for. Our Respiratory Team may be small in size, but it has a big heart and an even bigger mission: to make sure every child at Cedarcrest has the best possible support to grow, play, and thrive.
Our dedicated Respiratory Therapist & Respiratory Coordinator, Brianna MacLean, works closely with our nursing team each day to meet every child’s unique respiratory needs. Whether it’s managing ventilators, performing airway care, or celebrating a successful weaning step, her teamwork, skill, and compassion help our children stay safe, comfortable, and moving forward every day.
Every few months, we’re fortunate to welcome our partners from Dartmouth Health for our Quarterly Pulmonary Clinic. This special team includes Dr. Scott Schroeder, dedicated pulmonologist, and Nurse Laura Heath, whose expertise bring comfort and reassurance to both children and staff alike. During each visit, Dr. Scott and Nurse Laura join Brianna and our nursing staff to review each child’s progress, discuss updates, and set new goals together. These clinics are truly a shared effort, blending medical excellence with the caring spirit that defines our community.
This year, we’re especially proud to celebrate some wonderful successes: several of our children have made progress in their ventilator and tracheostomy weaning journeys. Watching a child spend more time off the ventilator, hearing a child’s voice for the first time or reach the milestone of trach removal is a joy for everyone involved. Each achievement is a testament to the strength and resilience of our children, and to the dedication of our team.
Of course, the journey doesn’t stop there. Our team continues to provide daily respiratory care, offer ongoing support to our nursing staff, and partner with families to ensure every child continues to breathe easier, grow stronger, and live their fullest life.
Thank you to all our caregivers, families, and hospital partners, especially Brianna, Dr. Scott, and Nurse Laura, for being part of this amazing journey.
We’d also like to thank the Bishop’s Charitable Assistance Fund for their recent grant in support of our Respiratory Care Program. The Bishop’s Charitable Assistance fund makes grants to tax-exempt organizations without regard to religious affiliation for projects that help people in New Hampshire meet their basic needs. The fund is operated by the Bishop of Manchester and a volunteer board of lay men and women Directors who make recommendations to the bishop for grants to organizations in New Hampshire whose mission is consistent to the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church. The Fund raises money through solicitation of individuals, businesses, and philanthropic organizations.
